Advice requested - text editor

I'm running Windows and looking for a notepad replacement.  It needs to do the simple stuff really simply, and I don't really have a massive use for complex stuff.  But it should be able to open unix text files without a problem, do find/replace, etc.  If it's scriptable that's a bonus (so I can do a series of finds/replaces in one go) but not essential.

Any suggestions?

Edlin is still included with Windows. What more do you need?

Otherwise, I second [livejournal.com profile] miramon's suggestion, while noting the existence of a free version, Notetab Light.
