It's interesting as I remember talking to an African American girl I worked with a few years ago and she was lamenting the fact that it was so hard to get hair products that worked for her [African American, as she plainly put it] hair type. I can only imagine that some salon stylists wouldn't have the right skills either, but that's more to do with individual training than racism.

It's not a good situation either way, but I do feel that this is a bit of a ridiculous media over-reaction. As one of the article comments says, they could have apologised and referred her to a better salon.

That's assuming a lot, unfortunately. Generally salons rent out chairs to stylists and as long as the chairs are filled...

If the salon in question had handled it better, I don't think this would be a story.
