Free users now have the option to make friends out of syndicated accounts. So if you want to do this, you now can by going here. Free users only get 1 points worth of friends, whereas paid users get 10. You can still get a whole bunch of comics though, which is one of the reasons I use it :->

Do you still use a news aggregator in addition? Why is that?

Nope, I gave up on news aggregators.

If nothing else, I no longer have to transfer config files back and forth when reading news in different places, to keep track of what I've read.

LJ does it all for me.
