I don't know what it is, but I'm against it!

Mothers Against Videogame Addiction And Violence is one of those groups that are against all that is right with the world - that is the opportunity to blow make-believe things up using other make-believe things, preferably producing the largest amount of make-believe gore possible.

The question is, however, is this site real or fake? I think it tips just about over the edge into The Onion level parody, but it's pretty close run.

This sounds just like the tripe I listened to them spewing on 48 Hours (a national "news" show here) a few weeks ago. They had a story about some guy who played EQ all the time who killed himself. Apparently, the EQ startup screen was on his computer when they found him, so clearly that proves the game made him kill himself and was obviously the sole reason he did so. They reported this in all seriousness. It impresses me when a show can torpedo its own journalistic integrity ten minutes into the first installment I watch.

Sadly, there really are people who believe video games are addictive and choc full of negative side-effects. True, the, uh, facts on this page are highly suspect, but none of their claims are new or surprising. If this is parody, it's very inept parody.

Hoax proven. Opinion revised.

It's just crappy parody.

I thought parody was supposed to be more extreme than, say, a segment aired on national television?

Feral young children?
Hmm... Somebody should round these people up, put them in a room with nothing but potted plants and rugs, give them a firework and then take away the door.
