As an only child I grew up with a (male) German Shepherd as both my first brother and then another as my second. They were of the same lineage, more golden and the most honourable people I've ever met. I'm just glad my beloved isn't here to see that photo as she wants a dog but I, as her late father who also grew up with dogs, felt/feel for a decade of life it's a life of remorse. I would love to get a dog but I know it would break her heart as much as the death of her parents has. And I have to say that's splendid coat you're wearing (you, not Tara though she is looking well nutritioned).
A life of remorse? I've outlived three dogs so far, and while I miss them, I don't think that their loss outweighs the joy and light they brought to my life. No more than I'd avoid a relationship just because some day it would probably end.
