Jesus Christ on a Stick

After despairing of getting a reasonable download speed for the Quake 4 demo from anywhere, I remembered that Telewest have an FTP site they run themselves - and because it's on their own internal network the speeds tend to be good.

I'm currently getting 1073 kilobytes per second off of it.

That's an 8MB download speed.

See - there is a reason to have 10MB broadband - I can download huge files in almost no time.

Funny, I remember when 10MB was the speed of the office LAN.  Now it's the speed of my internet connection...

I remember a computer I had (my first) that only had an 8MB hard drive...lol!

Your first computer sounds like mine. I remember how excited we were on getting our first 2MB hard drive. Thought we'd never fill that thing.....

The VERY first "computer" I had was a Timex-Sinclair, which also tape-driven, but if you wanted to do anything on it, you had to write the program (copy it manually)...all it took was once mistake to screw the whole thing up and have to start over...I was so glad when I got a Commodore 64....Those were the good ole days, for sure.

:-)

The awesome looking Day of Defeat Source film-effects trailer is what you should be downloading, actually. Penny Arcade link to it. But I know you're lazy so the link is here.

They've made it look like old newsreel footage. The whole game. The trailer is on the last page.

I'd reccomend it.

QIV demo ... playable, or just another movie ?

(I looked around for a playable one a couple of weeks ago, but nothing turned up. Maybe my Google-fu wasn't sufficiently strong, though ... )

As for the bandwidth thing, I first "networked" a computer with a 1200/75 baud modem ... ah, those were the days :-)

I remember when 8 meg was such an obscenely-large size for a game that I wasn't allowed to install the thing, and had to run it from a sereis of floppies! Still, nice! And what's Q4 like?

Ahh, a pity. I guess I'll just stick to UT2k4 then...
