Someone asked me the other day where I got all my links from.  Here's a few pointers.

Warren Ellis has an internet column syndicated here that consists largely of strange and unusual links.  You do occasionally find things you should not look at, but there's usually plenty of warning.

Slashdot is a geeky news site, that frequently has cool information, albeit mixed in with loads of things you don't care about.

Then there's my 'news' friends list, consisting of
ars_technica, kuro5hin, neowin, plasticdotcom, roger_ebert, saloncom, the_guardian and wired_news.

I also check the BBC News on a regular basis, as well as The Register and The Inquirer for tech news.

Oh, and of course, blogdex_feed contains the most common links found in blogs, jwz links to amusing things, linkfrenzy does likewise, in more compact form and linkmachinego does much the same.  That's my links friends group.

And if that lot doesn't keep you informed, nothing will do.

Hi, I must've been given either an inefficient mind or I'm just lazy and I think it's the latter of the two because I can't comprehend how you can process this all and keep up to date! You really surprise me!

I skim, pick out keywords that interest me, and just read the articles the catch my fancy.

I certainly don't read _everything_.

I have nothing to do at lunchtimes at work, so I read all the articles on the BBC news site, excluding sport, education and some of the politics/business news.

It takes about 24 minutes per day.

When you read it every day, you realise how it isn't actually updated nearly as often as you'd expect, but covers things rather better than TV/a lot of newspapers.

Oh yeah, the BBC site rocks. It, Slashdot, The Inquirer and The Register get far more attention paid to them than the rest.

I loathe Slashdot. With a passion.

I read The Metro on the way to work. It has all the news that I've read the day before on the BBC, but in a semi-tabloid, or at least populist broadsheet style, which is entertaining sometimes for the different emphasis in some stories...

It does amuse me that The Metro is owned by the same people as The Daily Mail...
