Pointless Geekery

Ok, so I got around to picking up a free certificate for my email. So now anything I send is digitally proven to have been sent by me (or someone who's had access to my email program. Or someone who know the password I used to log into Thawte and get them to issue me a certificate).

But nobody I know cares about certificates, digitally provable identities, etc. Which means that signing the emails is in fact completely pointless.

Oh well.

I'm reminded of the ads "Be the first of your friends to have a phone with video messaging!" Er, why exactly?

Well, I already have a free certificate and sign all of my outgoing email. So it's not quite nobody you know...

But how do we know that you are posting this?

I regularly speak to "you" on MSN only to find out that it's someone else.

Why would I trust your emails, signed or not?

Its good to be geeky..
