I took a course in the Theater of the Absurd as part of my BA in literature, decades ago, so the Godot article is really interesting.

That article on wholesale energy prices was published in Sept 2021 -- just how drastically the 'Russia-Ukraine dispute' would affect gas prices and what it would do with the pipelines was yet unknown back then.

"I am reminded of Tolkien fans who said that Peter Jackson had violated Lord of the Rings. No he hasn't. I checked my copy, and it is exactly the same as it always was."

It isn't the same. If it's a paperback from recent decades, it's likely to have a photo from the movie on the cover.

But never mind that. It takes a distinctly unimaginative person to fail to conceive of how watching a vivid and effective movie can have an influence on your subsequent reading of the book. Andrew is not a distinctly unimaginative person, so he is uttering BS to make an unfair dig.

But never mind that. The complaint, all along, hasn't been about what the movie does to the book as a book, but to the movie's unnecessary and egregious failures in its specific capacity as an adaptation of the book. Some changes may be necessary; these were not. They were a result of Jackson's failure to understand his source material.

If people didn't keep making cheap cracks like Andrew's, it wouldn't necessary to explain all this over and over again.
