Life with two kids: hospital trips

Sophia's finger got shut in a door 5 weeks ago. The swelling went 90% away in an hour, so we didn't go to the hospital.

Two weeks later it hadn't gone down any further, so we went to the GP, who said "She can bend it, it's only painful when it gets squeezed, it'll probably be fine, come back in two weeks if it's not."
Two weeks later, two days before we were going to go back, it swelled up to 50% larger than normal, on a Saturday. So I spent 45 minutes on the phone to the NHS and they sent me to the out of hours service, who gave us horrible tasting antibiotics.

A week after that, 90% of the swelling has gone again, so today I phoned the GP, who has referred her to the radiologist at the Sick Kids hospital to get it looked at.
Tomorrow I can phone *them* and get an appointment for her.
And hopefully they'll sort it out.

Meanwhile, Gideon still hasn't managed to have a "your ears have nothing clogging them up" scan (because of Covid, and then him being too old for sleeping through electrodes on his forehead, and then having a cold every time we go). But is now on the waiting list *again* to keep on trying.

If it helps Hunter has got himself a black tooth by pulling the shower head down in his face...

Eventually everyone will be uninjured and non-coldy at the same time and you won't know yourselves.

Ultán has just discovered the art of sleeping six hours at a go and it's AMAZING. From January he'd been up every two or three hours, it was atrocious.

My sympathies. After decades and decades of accidents that should have left me with broken bones, the only bone I've ever fractured was my ring finger [left hand] that got caught in a shut door.

It also swelled, then the swelling went down, but got re-swollen a few days later. Went in & got an x-ray, then was told it had a small fracture. Now -that- was an awkward little splint to wear for the next few weeks. ^_^
