Particular admiration of article on police bill for pointing out that what deters crime is not the length of the sentence, but the swiftness and certainty of judgment.

1. That's just plain horrific, as planned by the bill's authors.

2. And then there's this: giving powers with one hand, taking away budgetary resources with the other?

6. Not sure what I make of this yet. BBC needs more editorial independence from the will of 10 Downing, and more budgetary freedom besides. This could improve or complicate things. Possibly both.

9. 2021 is also a census year in Canada, and that advice makes sense here too.

And if you are religious (I'm a Quaker) it may be wise not to answer it as the stats have been abused since the question's introduction.

I'm also bothered by the gender identity question- 'they' were pressurised by the usual suspects into making it largely meaningless so I didn't answer that one either. I suspect it will simply baffle many cis people.

The terf and transphobic mob seem to have all too much influence with the Tories. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised!
