The 'banned' food reminds me of seeing deep fried hot dogs in mint choc chip batter some years back.

Are the crayfish tasty?

I can't be the first person to think that the crayfish problem is solvable with boiling water and Old Bay or Zatarain's seasoning!

Our (geographically isolated) neighborhood is allowing kids to go round trick-or-treating, but it is opt-in, with a list of where they can go, and no-contact (e.g. honor basket, treat table, a long PVC pipe at at least one house, and boys up the street are constructing a treat catapult). I will be putting out treats attached with clothespins to a big fake spiderweb. Given that it's outdoors, it's probably easier to keep safe than in the supermarket.

Yay for the unlocked phones. Such a pain. Though also was a pain when I discovered that typically-dual-SIM phones are, when sold by people like Tesco, some disabled single-SIM variant.

The mince and bean mixture would be quite nice, with rice and some stir-dried choy sum or kai lan, or cabbage. I'd prefer it with less oil, since mince is usually pretty greasy already, soya sauce instead of salt, and proper fresh garlic, instead of that weird powder stuff. And perhaps a bit of five-spice powder. But it's perfectly acceptable conceptually, and could take many flavour profiles very successfully (adding a bit of dried orange peel and cumin, for instance).

A good, straightforward, baked sausage roll is lovely. They and pork pies are my favourite traditional UK food. And good Yorkshire pudding.

Melted cheese on toast with a bit of mustard is a classic dish. I like to add some chopped cherry tomatoes instead of the mustard, and I use bread made with half-wholemeal flour, for the crunch.

All those things separately, and done properly would be perfectly nice. Putting them together and perverting them like that is...so sad.

My first thought was also, "Are those crayfish edible?" If they're that small though, they might not be. Perhaps they could just be minced and fed to farmed fish, or something.

I remember the panic a few years ago about snakehead fish in the US, which left most of Asia baffled (they're a delicious and expensive delicacy! And people were complaining at having them just swimming around, available for free?)

Chris Offutt's memoir became an enjoyable book with the somewhat more formal title of My Father the Pornographer.
