Pro tip: Try not to terrify your customers.

I bought a bug vacuum to help deal with the flies that we're getting with the current weather*.

And although the reviews all say it's rubbish for spiders that aren't absolutely tiny, it's clearly aimed at people that don't like them.

Which doesn't really explain why the outside of the box has multiple pictures of really evil looking spiders on it. To the point where I feel deeply uncomfortable even touching it**.

It's one thing to advertise your product, but scaring away your customers is a bit much!

Being an arachnophile, I can't think this would appeal! :o)

I have thought about a bug zapper. There were so many in the scullery that I resorted to the RAID spray last week (which left a satisfying number of corpses on the floor, but did mean that I had to let the dogs out through the conservatory instead.) I have found the fly papers from last year and must hang one as soon as I find the drill.

I am fine with spiders in general, but don't want them in the house. I especially wouldn't want them dropping from the ceiling onto my bed and dresser at random times, which is what a friend of mine is currently dealing with. I was in fact wondering about a portable/shop vac, and the bug vacuum seems like just the thing.

Asian Bug Swatter?

Have you looked at Asian bug swatters?

The battery-powered versions are much less expensive.

Re large pictures of spiders

I completely sympathise! I just don't want to touch the pictures or even see them unexpectedly. On the news they always warn people if there are going to be flashing lights or content that some people might find distressing, but they never give spider picture warnings.

I don't see why if people must put spider pictures on their stuff they can't put teeny tiny pictures, perhaps with an arrow saying "smaller than life size".

Ooh, that's a great idea. I might have to try one of those when I'm out on the patio.
