Excellent read! Reminds me of something I wrote in a recent blog post:

For that matter, dare to imagine a world where people are tolerant of their respective differences. We need that kind of vision. And forget realism. The genre is called fantasy. If you can more easily imagine flying mountains than tolerant people, have a mirror.

Clearly, mainstream media is less and less capable of doing so. It's up to us now.

Pandas> we (work) had a guy come to talk about panda genetics; he was from China, where they have solved panda breeding, and yeah, pandas breed just fine in captivity, if you treat them how they like to be treated. [fascinatingly the better (red) panda is not at all related (well, both mammals...) and independently evolved the same mechanism for eating bamboo, a rather useless foodstuff to most critters]
