I genuinely wonder whether the answer to Edinburgh's congestion is some form of Big Dig to put a number of sets of tunnels under central Edinburgh, one set each for train, bus and tram.

That and encouraing lots of people to live and work in Granton.

That would be a great help. As would building a bunch more houses and offices and shops down there.

And, if money were no object, a tunnel from the East Neuk to Leith.

I seem to recall somewhere seeing that the Council were keen to complete the original scheme. Might have been in the 10 or 20 year transport plan with the route up the Bridges past the Meadows and out to the hospital.

I'm not entirely convinced by the South Suburban Circle. I think that unless your journey is from Craiglockhart to Portobello one would be quicker taking an existing bus service.

I hadn't clocked that it had been dropped. I was rather assuming that with the chat about Line 2 then Line 1b was baked in.

Perhaps they are hoping that the developers will crack and offer to pay for some of the Line 1b.
