Here's probably the strangest of all verbal shibboleths in American politics. While the noun form is Democrat(s), the adjective form used by the party and literally everyone in it is Democratic. Democratic Party, Democratic candidates. The only people who use "Democrat" as an adjective are Republicans, and they so consistently only use it when they're insulting or belittling that it's become an insult term. I would hate to see foreigners inadvertently picking it up.

There's an interesting divide in the 10 racist phrases article between problematic because of current usage and problematic because of etymology. "Thug" has both kinds of problems, but the article only lists the former for it.

Speaking of phrases with problematic etymology, I just bought a German board game called Indian Summer.
