That we can do useful approximations easily enough, but that complete emulation is going to be nigh-impossible?

Yeah, probably.

Of course, the outcome will depend on how deep a simulation we need to do to get the behaviour we want. If we need to simulate down to the molecular level then we're probably fucked.
