It's a bit windy out today

There's a lot of wind out there right now. All of the Edinburgh schools are shut, and my work sent home all non-essential staff at 1:30. I had been out at a Christmas team lunch, but not drinking (as we were intending to return for the afternoon), but was very happy to just head home rather than stay out. This is the kind of weather where people die from things blowing off of roofs onto their heads.

On the way home I stopped once to help someone push a giant bin back out of the road (one of these things), found another one blown over near the flat, and was generally very happy to get in out of the wind.

And then [livejournal.com profile] bracknellexile posted this picture on FB:

which is of the next street over from me, and shows a roof lying in the middle of the road (and the bits of remaining roof on the right hand side).

The original plan had been to go out tonight for dinner. I think we'll put that one on hold...

Hurricane Bawbag, they're calling it on Twitter.

I'm hoping my roof isn't going to look like that by morning! I don't think it's quite as bad up here in Dundee but it's a mite scary in my flat with the windows howling in the wind and the roof creaking :(

Stay safe!

I had an exam cancelled today. Electronics
Irritatingly I very much wanted and was ready to sit it. I only need 20% to pass the semester.

I'm now sort-of hoping the next one [Mech Eng Science] will also be postponed, as I'm not confident of passing it yet at all...

That's scary. Stay safe.

See facebook for the glorious (and shaky, it was cold and I was stressed) shot of the front door to my flat covered in police tape and the road strewn with roof/chimney debris. I've had to decamp to James Street and only after a standup 'debate' about whether I could get overnight stuff from my flat which I eventually only convinced them of by mentioning essential medication being in there...

I always think of Patrick Troughton in Omen. It's not worth the risk!
