I think "I met a racist, but she actually seemed quite nice" is really quite an important point - people with vile opinions about something might be entirely nice people in every other respect, you can't spot racists just by looking for people who turn every conversation around to how they want to kill all the n*****s.
It does distress me that the journalist appears to share the (not just BNP) position that "disliking immigration" and "racism" are not closely connected, and thus doesn't join up the clear dots between "wanting to protect my culture from immigration" and "racism".
