Strangely, it works from my laptop screen, but not from my desktop screen (HTC Desire with barcode reader app).

Odd! I would have suspected my app, but for the fact that I only had to wave my phone near the screen showing the Dork Tower from t'other day for it to recognise it. This one, even framing the code in the little box didn't do it.

It's probably an artefact of your desktop refresh rate - if your laptop screen is LCD and your desktop cathode-ray that might explain it?

Cathode Ray? I'm afraid that that's still plugged into my pianola and collection of phonographic cylinders.
