The obvious problem is that a mechanical or electronic failure could leave you trapped in the car, which could easily turn a minor accident into something serious or at least seriously annoying.
AMG solves a similar problem on the gull-wing doors on the SLS by employing a set of explosive bolts that release the door hinges if the car is upside down for more than ten seconds.
Hmm. Agreed, I think. Interesting idea and could be good but I'd need more evidence of safety measures than "Sometimes the rotary dropdoor can be a godsend..."
I can just imagine it's use in the UK. Windy wet blustery day. Your paperwork blown out the door and the interior getting soggy. You are also stuffed if you have a dog in the back.
