In winter time especially, we are regularly able to see a refinery fire in Fife. Just burn-off of excess gas from a high chimney or something. It peeks just above the crest of the Fife hills that border the Firth of Forth and brightly lights the underside of the clouds with an eerie flickering orange glow. It can occasionally be seen clearly from Cramond waterfront but is best seen from the top of hill on the road that runs between Maybury and Barnton.
