I'm amused that someone is trying to make ST:TNG synthohol - I wonder if that's where they got the idea.

The iphone app looks useful, but I don't believe it would actually work - underneath a mattress, I don't see how the accelerometer (which is good, but not spectacular) could possibly sense anything useful. I'm certain it would work if you strapped it to your torso, but that does not sound like comfortable sleeping to me.

Ah, yes it is. Other than the risk of knocking expensive electronics on the floor, it might work.

I have a Sleep Tracker, which is a watch with an alarm that works on the same sleep-cycle principle. It worked really well for about a month, then it ended up just like any other alarm - I don't feel particularly awake when it goes off, and just hit snooze and go back to sleep.

Not sure what conclusions to draw from that. I have weird sleep cycles? It worked because of the placebo effect and then wore off?
