Although it would be fairer to consider the effort it would take to clean the many hundreds of thousands of spoons we're actually talking about.

Yes, but because the plastic spoon production process produces those spoons in volume, the comparison is an unbalanced one.

Also, thanks to plastics, we now have taterware and other cellulose plastics.
