I was surprised the second one wasn't as popular as the first, but other than that I know that popular opinion is that the series goes downhill. Whereas I love book 4 - which feels more adult than the earlier ones. Book 5 is a tad too depressing, but I still like it. I'd have loved there to be a book 6 from Adams himself, but I'll wait and see what reviews are like for the new one.
