This is how lightning works



Normally we only see the one bright line - but here you can see the original strike head towards the ground, various "tentacles" feeling their way towards it, until one of them makes a connection, and then "boom!" conducting a massive amount of charge back up.

We got caught out on Lake Huron in a lightning storm on Sunday - this makes it even more terrifying.
