I've heard of a similar case in the USA in the early 1900. One conjoined twin got drunk and assaulted someone. The judge ended up letting them both go as he felt it was the greater evil that an innocent man goes to jail then a guilty one goes free.

I am completely dumbstruck by that abortion story. Surely that's some kind of satire? Surely that didn't really happen?

No, this is real. There are other similar things to this that do happen. It horrifies me that society has (at it's extreme edges) now got to this stage.
