I heard a bit of the lost Radiophonic Workshop archive on Radio 4. I mean hardcore drum 'n' bass techno 30 years before it was "invented". And on Radio 4!

I just saw the Ghettopoly yesterday! At the shop at the Finnish Museum of Contemporray Art Kiasma! Woah!

I have no idea if they were doing it to be ironic or not.

Delia Derbyshire is one of the great unsung pioneers of electronic music, as well as being responsible for one of the most innovative and recognisable pieces of theme music on British television - Ron Grainer, who sketched out the basic theme, was so impressed by the version Derbyshire produced that he spent some time and effort (unsuccessfully) trying to get her a joint composer's credit. I regret that I only really became aware of her work (apart from the Doctor Who theme) when I read her obituary in the newspaper.

There was quite an interesting biographical play Blue Veils and Golden Sands (named after one of her more famous compositions, music for a documentary about the Tuareg people of the Sahara) on Radio 4 a few years ago, starring Sophie Thompson as Delia. It portrayed her as a rather lonely and tragic figure, although I'm not sure if it was entirely accurate in that respect. You're welcome to an mp3 copy if you like.
