Bird picking at the spring berries

Which is odd as it's fucking January. There were tons of squirrels too - don't they normally hibernate at this time of year?

Squirrels are very half-hearted hibernators, and always wake up in mild weather.

Squirrels spend most of the winter trying to find the nuts they buried I thought.

Many squirrels will not hibernate at all in a mild winter, especially in the city where they will continue to be well-fed by those useful humans. Those that do choose to hibernate will wake up about once a week for a little snack.
Such is my recollection of the situation anyway.

Other thing worth noting is berries are autumnal.

We still have fruiting strawberries and ladybirds around. They are denied of their winter for the time being.
